Vision Quest

A journey to self-discovery

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose touch with our true selves. We often focus on external achievements and possessions, hoping they’ll bring lasting joy. But what if the answers we seek lie within, waiting to be discovered through a profound connection with nature?

A Vision Quest offers this opportunity; a chance to step away from the noise of everyday life and listen to your inner voice. It’s a time-honoured Rite of Passage used across cultures to facilitate deep personal transformation.

The journey of a Vision Quest

A Vision Quest unfolds in three transformative stages:

1. Severance

For three days, you'll prepare at base camp with a small group. This is a time of letting go: of old habits, preconceptions, and the comforts of daily life. You'll learn earth awareness exercises and how to participate in powerful ceremonies like the death lodge and purpose circle. These experiences help you shed the old and open yourself to new possibilities.

2. Threshold

The heart of the Quest is a four-day solo fast in nature. With only water (no food) and basic shelter, you'll spend time alone with your thoughts, free from the distractions of technology, books, or even a watch. Nature becomes your guide, helping you find your vision through deep reflection and connection with the natural world.

3. Incorporation

Returning to base camp, you'll share your story with the group. As guides, we listen deeply, reflecting back the themes and insights we hear. This mirroring process helps you integrate your experience and prepare for your return to daily life, carrying the wisdom you've gained.

The practical details

Your Vision Quest journey begins on a Friday afternoon and concludes on a Sunday afternoon (10 days later). The first three days are spent at basecamp, preparing for your solo time. On Tuesday morning, you’ll depart for your four-day solo fast, returning Saturday morning. The final two days are dedicated to integration and preparation for your return home.

We provide breakfast and evening meals at basecamp, along with water and hot drinks throughout your stay. The total cost is £950, with a £250 non-refundable deposit required to secure your place.

Your guide on the journey

As your Vision Quest Guide, I, Dr. Denise Taylor, bring over 30 years of experience as a psychologist, along with extensive training in Vision Quest facilitation. I was in apprenticeship to David Wendl Berry, the first person in the UK to run Vision Quests, he remains my mentor and I continue to support him in his work.

My focus is on supporting individuals in mid-life and beyond, incorporating my research on meaningful ageing into the Quest experience. I also support people of all ages who are at a transition point.

My own deep connection with nature and commitment to authentic living inform my approach. Drawing on knowledge of depth psychology, deep imagery and Jungian concepts. I have the knowledge and wisdom gained over my 67 years on this earth. Nature is my greatest teacher and has allowed me to live a more authentic life.
