Later-Life Transitions Coaching
Often called retirement coaching, this work focuses on identity, purpose, and what comes next.
Later life can be a turning point. Sometimes it follows retirement, sometimes illness, redundancy, caring responsibilities, or a growing sense that the old rhythm no longer fits.
I work with people who want thoughtful, psychologically grounded space to reflect, make sense of change, and shape what matters next. This work is less about stopping work, and more about identity, agency, and how you want to live in the years ahead.
More than planning ahead, a thoughtful space to explore who you are now and what comes next.
My work is guided by ThriveSpan, a gentle philosophy that charts a more conscious path through later life, where wellbeing, intention and reflection meet.
Is this for you?
Most of the people I work with are in their 60s and 70s, navigating the psychological and practical shifts of later life rather than a simple exit from work.
Many people come to me when they sense a shift in their inner landscape. The questions are rarely just practical.
They often sound like:
Who am I now that life looks different?
What truly matters to me at this stage?
How do I build a meaningful rhythm for the years ahead?
Where do I still want to contribute, learn or grow?
What needs to be released, and what wants to emerge?
Many people I work with are still working, stepping down gradually, or considering a phased exit rather than a fixed retirement date.
If you’re seeking space to explore these questions with depth and clarity, this work is for you.
What we can explore together
Each conversation is shaped around what’s unfolding in your life. We may look at:
Navigating transitions, thresholds and changing roles
Rebuilding identity after long careers or caring responsibilities
Meaning, purpose and contribution in later life
Creating new rhythms, routines and ways of living
Emotional patterns that no longer serve you
Building confidence, courage and agency in the years ahead
Letting go, simplifying and realigning with your values
Preparing for your next chapter with intention rather than pressure
This is not a programme or a formula. It’s a grounded, collaborative space to understand where you are and what wants to unfold next.
Our conversations are spacious, but not vague. We use a light structure so you leave with clarity and practical next steps.
How I work
My approach is reflective and psychologically informed, combining open conversation with gentle structure, drawing on:
Deep listening and thoughtful questioning
Life review and meaning-making techniques
Identity and values exploration
Later-life transition work
My ThriveSpan philosophy
Optional nature-based sessions in my woodland for those who prefer reflective work outdoors
Some clients work with me for a single clarity session. Others return periodically, or choose a series of conversations to support deeper change.
Working outdoors
Sometimes insight arrives more easily outdoors. I offer the option to meet in my private woodland in Gloucestershire, a peaceful space for gentle exploration, reflection and connection.
Nature-based sessions are discussed after an initial 30-minute conversation, so we can clarify intention and ensure this way of working feels right for you.
Woodland sessions may include:
Solo time in nature
Guided reflective exercises
Threshold conversations
Quiet, unhurried space to think
These sessions are calm, spacious and held with care.
Optional tools
For some clients, I also use specialist assessments to deepen our work. One example is the Highlands Ability Battery (HAB) — a gold-standard assessment of natural abilities. It measures the talents you’re born with, rather than skills learned over time, and can provide valuable clarity when you’re considering new directions in later life.
Ways we can work together
Start here: 30-minute First Session (£75)
A short, focused conversation to explore what’s unfolding for you, what support may help, and whether my way of working feels right. There’s no pressure to commit to anything further.
Go deeper: Individual Insight Session (£297)
A focused 90-minute Zoom session, guided by a short pre-session questionnaire covering key areas of later life. This session is designed to help you make sense of where you are, clarify what matters now, and identify practical next steps. You’ll also receive a recording to revisit. (This is ideal if you want clarity and direction without entering a longer programme.)
If you’re navigating a transition
Some people choose to work with me over a small number of sessions to support a phased exit from work, a shift in identity, or the shaping of a next chapter. This work is flexible and tailored, rather than a fixed programme.
Longer work (by invitation)
For those wanting ongoing accompaniment and depth, I sometimes offer longer-term work. This is discussed after we’ve worked together and only where it feels genuinely useful.
Executive & Organisational Support
I also support organisations and senior leaders around later-life transitions and knowledge transfer. Find out more.
A personal note
My own later life has included significant transitions, doctoral research into meaningful ageing, and time spent living and working from my woodland. These experiences shape how I work now, with less emphasis on rigid plans and more attention to meaning, identity, and how life is lived from here.
How to begin
You’re welcome to start with a single paid 30-minute session.
This is a focused, reflective conversation to explore what’s unfolding, what support you may need, and whether my way of working feels right for you.
