Hi, it’s Dr Denise and I’m in my wood; I just wanted to do a short video to talk about something that I’ve written about this week . That’s about ‘Your Future Self’, and if you read the article, you will see how AI has aged me, and I look dreadful. Let’s hope that’s not how I’m going to be 😉
But I do think it’s, it’s worth thinking about the sort of future that we want to have, and the things that we want to be able to do, and to look at a future date.
This chat from the wood is linked to a most recent article here over on Substack – What Will Our Future Self Tell Us?
There’s somebody I know who’s in a band, and he was talking about getting older, and he’s only in his mid-thirties. But we often worry about age, and whether we can still do things.
What is it that we want to be able to do?
I’m in the wood today, on the edge of my wood and you can see there’s fields, there’s a meadow. I have a chap called Dave who helps me in the wood and he cut away some of the trees so I can sit on a bench and look out and take a different perspective. If we think about that, to do with aging and to do with the future …
I’m 67, coming up for 67 and a half. If I think about 80, it’s 12 and a half years away, wow. But what do I want to be able to still be doing then? And how do I think my life will be like? I think it’s useful just to think about the things that you want to be able to do so that you can put steps in place now.
I want to still be able to walk up three flights of stairs. And if that’s what I want to do and I can only manage two flights of stairs, well, that’s still a win as far as I’m concerned. I want to still be writing and sharing knowledge and that, I think, is on line to do. I still want to be able to be physically active to be here in my wood. I think the more activity I do in the wood, the easier that’s going to be.
And there are Friendships and relationships that I wish were different, and I think that’s something that I need to focus on over the coming years, so that I have the sort of relationship I want to have with them in 12 years’ time.
Given my mother is nearly 92, I don’t think she’s going to be around in 12 years’ time, but you never know. There are things that I’m doing with her, that can be quite challenging, but I’m still doing it because one of the things I don’t want to have when I’m 80 is look back with regrets and think about what I should have done.
I’m going to put a link to the article I wrote about your future self, so that you can read it. In the article I write about journaling and I’ve got some journaling prompts that I’m more than happy to send you. I’m not going to just post the link; it’s only going to be for the people that have actually asked for it.
So Please ask. I spent a great deal of time putting together these journaling prompts to get you thinking about your future self.
Until next time, it’s Dr. Denise out in nature and a deer has just walked over there. Amazing stuff. Till next time. Bye
